Engineering Admissions in the state of Maharashtra for the academic year 2014-15 will be based on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2014 scores and NOT on the Common Entrance Test (MT-CET).

Unlike previous years where admissions to engineering colleges in Maharashtra were based on the MT CET test scores, this year the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has decided to scrap the exam and accept the JEE Main scores as a gateway to admissions. This has definitely rejoiced lakhs of engineering aspirants in the state who had to study for both CET and JEE Main creating immense pressure during the admission season.

JEE Main (earlier AIEEE) was introduced last year as an entrance test for admissions to National Institutes of Technology (NIT), centrally funded colleges and even state colleges. Applicants who qualified the JEE Main will appear for the JEE Advanced (for IIT and ISM Dhanbad admissions). The introduction of this two tier exam created a huge uproar in the education circuit especially with its delayed results and flawed allotments.

Official DTE Website has clearly announced that admissions to Maharashtra Engineering Colleges will be based on JEE Main (Paper 1) and HSC exam scores for academic year 2014-15. Exam dates for JEE Main are yet to be annnounced though the tentative date is April 6, 2014.

JEE Advanced is scheduled on Sunday, May 25, 2014. Check Report.

MT CET (previously known as MHT-CET), originally incepted in 2004 as an entrance test for engineering admissions in state colleges, disrupted the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams as admisisons were completely based on the CET.
